Our monthly divestment meetings address state and local fossil fuel issues. We work to encourage political and large organizations to divest from fossil fuels and invest in local sustainable energy futures.
Divestment played a key role worldwide in turning the tide against South African racial apartheid, in particular CalSTRS and CalPERS, two of the world's largest retirement funds. This group focuses on urging CalSTRS (the California State Teachers Retirement System) to divest its billions from fossil fuel companies. Where California leads, the rest of the world tends to follow. It's a big opportunity to push the world along to removing all investments in fossil fuel companies.
We have volunteer tasks that can be done from home: mailing letters to the boards of the 1300+ local chapters of the CTA (California Teachers Association), and more.
The divestment group meets the 1st Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. at the home of a volunteer in Santa Rosa. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for location.
